Introduction

Installing a public restroom in a North American park or public space is fundamentally different from installing a standard indoor toilet. Extreme weather, wide temperature fluctuations, wind, snow, and humidity create very specific technical requirements.

Urben Blu was designed precisely to address these realities—not by adapting an existing product, but by developing a complete solution manufactured in Québec and engineered for year-round operation.

1. Engineered for temperatures from –40°C to +40°C

Unlike imported cabins or models designed for mild climates, Urben Blu is built on rigorous technical choices:

  • R-24.5 wall insulation
  • R-40 roof insulation
  • Self-supporting galvanized steel structure
  • White PVC roof to reduce heat island effect
  • Ultra-high-performance fiber-reinforced concrete walls and floors
  • No materials sensitive to cold or moisture

Every component is selected to withstand intense freeze-thaw cycles, heavy snow loads, and constant humidity.

2. Intelligent, redundant heating systems

To operate reliably 12 months a year, Urben Blu integrates three complementary heating systems:

  • Electric radiant heated floor
  • 2,500 W forced-air heater controlled by thermostat
  • 2,000 W auxiliary heater in the technical room

These systems prevent plumbing from freezing, ensure a comfortable space for users, and allow maintenance crews to work safely in all conditions.

3. Controlled ventilation with heat recovery

The Fantech VHR70R ENERGY STAR® heat recovery ventilator:

  • Preheats incoming air in winter using recovered heat
  • Helps temper incoming air in summer
  • Removes humidity and reduces odors
  • Continues operating during defrost cycles thanks to recirculation mode

This is not a basic exhaust fan—it is a complete ventilation system designed for durability and occupant comfort.

4. Materials resistant to vandalism and harsh weather

Harsh climate is only part of the challenge. Vandalism is also a reality in many North American parks. Urben Blu addresses both:

  • Unbreakable UHP fiber-reinforced concrete
  • Exterior panels with anti-graffiti coating
  • Anti-vandal stainless steel accessories
  • No user-side moving parts (no toilet seat, no fragile mechanisms)
  • Unbreakable mirror
  • Fixed, wall-mounted toilet

These design choices significantly reduce damage and maximize the building’s service life.

Conclusion

Urben Blu is not simply an “improved” toilet. It is a public infrastructure solution designed to withstand North American climate realities, year after year. Where other solutions must close in winter or require constant repairs, Urben Blu remains operational, stable, and safe.
